acoustic engineers are basically hybrid ME/EE, with as much or more intuition about wave propegation than RF engineers

lots of software will just draw lines between the points
in an RTA, pink noise looks flat displayed on a log scale, it accounts for the number of points in a given frequency range
you can use FFT if you are aware, like FFT to compare a reference system to a prototype system in a room for voicing is fine
you want them to look the same at given frequencies, absolute levels dont matter
zeeshan: also, it is mechanical vibrations

the engineers are big on matlab for DSP algorithms
but for FFT output, most any audio aquisition software will do it
neat
also FFT isnt great for acoustics
yeah but its the way it displays amplitude
RTA is better
so if i remember right, an FFT of pink knoise will show lower amplitude at higher frequency
but there are more points at higher amplitude

cheater__: http://www.listeninc.com/us/products/soundcards.html
THD+N input: -98 dB (0,0012%), output: -97 dB (0,0014%)
its not an AP, but its pretty fuckin good
almost triple zero
Supported sample rates: 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 96 kHz
doesnt do 192k
anyway, they have a lot of options on that page, with specs i would consider more credible than a loopback

at work, with this for aquisition and analysis: http://www.listeninc.com/us/products/soundcheck.html
see how they display the software all blurry way on the background?
its because the UI is somewhat fucked

for a personal soundcard, if i was doing music stuff professionally, or was doing consulting audio hardware work and didn't suck at it, id prob get one of those
hell if i made like $15k a year more a year, id no doubt have one of those
we use this: http://www.rme-audio.de/en_products_multiface_2.php

cheater_1: audiomatica CLIOfw
i think its like $3k now
UI isnt intuitive, sometimes frustrating, but its hella effective for quick R&D
